Design and build of Zero-Based Budgeting
Matasma engaged with a leading CPG & Retail player to design, build and streamline ZBB Model with Accurate Year Comparisons, Historical Data Management, and Performance Improvements

Challenges
- Ensuring accurate matching of current and previous year data after the model rollover, while maintaining consistency in reporting
- Managing the storage of historical data (FY23 and FY24), ensuring data integrity and accessibility for future comparisons
- Addressing the analytics and comparison challenges, especially when considering Last Year’s (LY) data in Current Year (CY) FX, including package movements from the historical period
- Optimizing the model size to balance detailed data storage with sustained performance, ensuring scalability and speed in reporting
Our Approach
- Conducted model rollover to ensure that both current year and previous year’s data are reflected accurately in the updated model
- Stored historical data from FY23 and FY24 as part of the required data records, ensuring all relevant past data is available for future comparisons
- Implemented analytics and comparison processes using LY data in CY FX, taking into account package movements to ensure accuracy across time periods
- Focused on model size optimization to improve performance by adjusting data granularity and reducing inefficiencies while maintaining necessary data for analysis
Delivered Outcomes
- Current and previous year’s data are accurately reflected after the rollover, ensuring completeness and consistency in financial analysis
- Historical data (FY23 & FY24) is securely stored, meeting the data storage request and supporting future comparisons
- LY data in CY FX comparisons and analytics optimized, with considerations for package movements, enabling insightful analysis
- Achieved model size optimization, ensuring improved performance, faster processing times, and scalability for future data cycles
